Soapy water is the most traditional way to clean anything, and it works just as well on your microwave! Just follow this guide to get a squeaky clean microwave:

Step 1. Wash the turntable

The first thing you need to do is take out the turntable to wash it separately. You have two options: wash the turntable by hand or place it in the dishwasher.

If you are washing the turntable by hand, grab a sponge dipped in soapy water and start scrubbing. On the other hand, if you want to avoid the scrubbing, load the turntable in the dishwasher and let it do all the work!

Step 2. Loosen up the grime

To loosen up the baked-on grime, pour water into a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in the microwave for a few minutes (one to three minutes should be enough). Then, let the steam build for about five minutes to loosen up the stuck-on grime!

Once the time’s up, remove the bowl (be careful and remember it’s hot!).

Step 3. Soap and a cloth

Wiping with a clean cloth and soapy water should be enough to remove the stains from your microwave.

However, if you’re having a hard time getting rid of the grime, you can grab a sponge and scrub the stubborn stains.

Step 4. Rinse and dry

Lastly, rinse the microwave by wiping it with a damp cloth. Then, use a dry cloth to remove most of the moisture, and that’s it! Your microwave should be stain-free now.

Alternative methods to clean your microwave

Are you looking for a green cleaning method for your microwave? If you’re not a fan of the classic dish soap, here are some alternative options for you:

#1 Vinegar

You can exchange the water from the previous method with a mix of water and vinegar. On top of loosening up the grime, vinegar can help you eliminate lingering smells in your microwave.

Mix one cup of water with two tablespoons of white vinegar and let it heat for five minutes. Then, let the steam build for ten more minutes. After that, you can wipe your microwave as usual.

#2 Lemon

The lemon method works pretty much the same as the vinegar method. The difference is that, instead of vinegar, you use the juice of one lemon.

In addition to cleaning your microwave, the lemon juice will also leave it smelling fresh!

#3 Baking Soda

Baking soda is a stronger solution for baked-on stains! This household item is slightly abrasive, which helps to scrub off the food scraps, plus it’s an odor-neutralizing agent that will eliminate the foul smells of the food residue.

To use this method, make a paste by mixing baking soda and water and let it sit on the stains for a few minutes before wiping it with a damp cloth. Once you get rid of the harder stains, you can continue your cleaning process as usual.
